In response to our questions for class:
If I were to rate my physical well-being, I would probably give myself an 8. My spiritual well being would receive a 6 and my psychological well being would receive an 8. I try extremely hard to promote a healthy lifestyle with physical activity and a healthy lifestyle. A goal that I would like to implement would be to make sure that not only am I getting the appropriate amount of fitness in and healthy diet, I would like to involve my family and friends. Having a support group can help hold one accountable for their actions. My spiritual well being could be reinforced with more chances to attend church and join in groups to discuss how to promote spirituality. My psychological well-being was tested a few years ago and through meditation techniques and deep breathing exercises, I feel that I have a strength in my psyche. It sometimes takes life stressors to give a person a better understanding to how whole body well-being can play on one's health. A goal that I would like to set for my psychological well-being would be to discover more ways that one can help to clear the mind and relax since certain situations could call for different methods of treatment.
Thank you for sharing your experiences with the video. I too felt this very relaxing and I liked that it took our body into pieces and through colors made us see the values in ourself and who we are as a person. This is how I felt when I listened to the video. I found my inner strengths. I felt stronger and much more relaxed after listening to this. I think exercise and dieting is made much easier when you have a support group as well. I think it is so important to spread the word because we all need to learn to live healthier lives. I wish you the best of luck with every aspect in your life and thanks again for the post!
ReplyDeleteI agree with what you said about finding your inner strengths. I think eveyone has their opinions of how they want to feel and act, and being able to tap into a new way to look at life and myself is a great tool to help someone understand their feeling
DeleteI to agree with you that the video did make you feel in control of your mind. the question I would like to ask is if you would share some of your thoughts on other barriers that prevent us from being obtaining optimal haealth goals.
DeleteHey Jen -Love your page. This is my first blog so bear with.
ReplyDeleteI think that you are very well balanced in compared to others so congrats to that. I am a firm believer in involving others to help support. There is a book called Vital Friends and it talks about certain friends for certain things. I also believe that relaxation and breathing techniques work too. Such as aroma therapy and candles. I love lavendar and jasmine. Check those sents out if you get a chance.
thanks for Sharing!
Lil
I will have to check out the book you suggested. It sounds really interesting and I always enjoy looking at other methods of relaxation and well-being.I absolutly love aroma therapy and especially lavender :) Thanks so much for sharing!
DeleteJen, you sound so incredibly knowledgeable where did you get your start in mediation. This is not just a question to fulfill the assignment but I really would like to know.
ReplyDeleteRob
Thanks rob :)..i have been in the industry for about 5 years and like to read and experiment with vaeious complementary and alternative practices because the field is constantly changing. I also had some life events that happened that forved me to deal with massive amounts of stress. Rather than take medication, i wanted to take more of a holistic approach because i feel certain drugs cause other health issued. Not only have i had great success with various meditative exercises, but i feel better than i have in years and my stress and anger levels are so low!
DeleteHi Jen,
ReplyDeleteI think it is great to involve family and anyone in your support system to keep you accountable and also to keep them healthy too. I am interested in meditation and also hypnosis to deal with my anxiety/panic disorder instead of the medication I take. Your goals are inspirational-best wishes to you in the coming year and beyond.
Alicia:)
Hi Jen,
ReplyDeleteI also enjoyed the exercise and found it to be relaxing, I could see the rainbow colors that we were suppose to imagine. Once I came back to reality I felt more relaxed and like I had more energy. Having a support system in place while setting goals is one of the best ideas, without that it is hard to reach your goals. You have some great goals, and going to church can help boost you spiritual wellness, you feel closer to nature that way. Meditation techniques does wonders on some people, if they allow themselves to let go. I look forward to seeing more of your blogs they are great!
Hi Jen,
ReplyDeleteI found the exercise to be relaxing and experience a true calm of the mind and body. I could not visualize the colors, which I don't understand why...do you have any suggestions?
I also agree with you regarding involving family and friends...it does create a good support system that will only enhance the experience for all involved. It seems you have a lot of experience in meditation...and sounds like it has been a source of balance and strength during difficult times. What are your thoughts of joining a meditation group? I've been thinking of doing this...as I am having a difficult time focusing. Do you think it will help me? Would love to know your thoughts!
Hi Manisha, a lot of times when people cannot fully visualize the color it can usually be a sign that there is something that can be weighing on one's mind. In today's society, there are so many stressors and it can be hard to shut off the mind. I think joining a meditation group cannot only be beneficial for your health, but it can lead to lasting friendships with folks who have the same interests and beliefs as yourself. I'd say go for it, your only gaining insight and a better glimpse into a healthier well-being :)
DeleteHi Jen,
ReplyDeleteThe rainbow exercise didn't go the same way for me as everyone else. I'm a little different I suppose, I wasn't able to see the colors or even focus for that fact, but when it changed to a white aura of light then I became calm and relaxed. I totally agree with the support system in groups as well as at home because my husband was doing the exercise with me and he saw the colors and when it was finished he was relaxed and energized, and he's ready to do it again!
