Universal Loving Kindness and Integral Assessment

This exercise allowed me to open my heart and set some inner feelings and opinions free. this was slightly different than the other Loving Kindness meditation we had done in a previous week, and I feel this was much easier to grasp the concept and feeling of the exercise. I was able to visualize and feel what I was saying making the exercise very enjoyable. As I did this exercise, I began to feel intense emotions that began to over take my mind and consume my being. Having these emotions allowed me to fully understand the concept and helped me to appreciate its goals. I had been battling the flu for a few days before doing this assignment, and the feelings of sickness seemed to be non existent as I was doing the exercise. After completing it, not only did my mood improve, but I also was able to feel more at ease with my body. This exercise is something that I would definitely recommend to others as it is a great way to expand the mind and cultivate emotions towards others.

After doing the Integral Assessment, I chose to the area of pyschospiritual to focus on its growth and development. I would like to explore this area more and be able to expand my relaxation and meditative practices. Keeping the mind healthy not only can greatly improve cognitive function and help deal with stress, but it can be extremely beneficial to one's overall health. I want to improve and incorporate the amount of time that I spend on meditation and other mental fitness techniques on a daily basis. Being more receptive to other types of practices such as visualization and visual imagery will help to foster a greater mental well-being and lead to a life of fulfillment and happiness. As I continue this journey to wholeness, incorporating new techniques and ideas will not only help to open my mind to health, but it will greatly help me to teach my clients the benefits of mind-body wellness.

  1. Hi Jen,

It sounds like you are on the right road as far as mental wellness. I have a the most difficult time with this aspect of wellness, since taking this class I have a lot more aware of my feelings and reactions on a daily basis. I am trying to implement the exercises, especially if I feel myself escalating. I keep telling myself this worry, anger or anxiety is only going to make me physically ill and I have been able to diffuse it somewhat. A work in progress. I agree in order to teach our clients these practices we need to practice them also, walk the talk so to speak. Thanks for the post! Lisa

  2. Jen,

Thank you for your post! I always enjoy reading your blog. You seem to be on the right path to integral health and wellness. You also always have great in-depth perspectives from our exercises. I think allowing time everyday for these exercises is a great goal. I would love to find that time myself. I think making you mental and spiritual health a priority is key to feeling like you can make time for it. If only I looked at taking time for myself and meditation as important as brushing my teeth, going for a run or paying my bills I would be a pro at meditation by now. I think finding our true priorities in life is another key to health and wellness. Thanks again for your post Jen!

  3. The universal loving kindness exercise was definitely different than the loving kindness exercise. Where you opened your heart and opinions I put up walls and barrier. IT was very hard for me to allow “all of human kind” into my circle of love and trust, so when I observed how this felt it was awkward and scary. Jen I am very impressed that you were able to open up and allow yourself to be vulnerable I think that is why you were able to feel better because you let go of some unseen stresses deep in your life. Knowing that you can do it makes me want to go back and try the exercise again knowing that it can be accomplished.

  4. Hey Jen,

The exercise really helped me see that I can help people more than I should. I really like volunteering and I think If it's made a priority, that I will eventually make a spot for it. I also cose meditation as an exercise to help with me stresses of daily life. I think it is great that you chose itas well.

  5. Hi Jen,

I really enjoyed reading your blog-especially after having technical difficulties the other night! You are very positive and gave some great reasons to refine the psychospiritual aspect of our lives. I chose this area as well, especially for stress. I know that I need to improve my mental wellness for myself as well as the people I love and care for.

Best of luck with classes and beyond,
    Alicia
